Oooh I’m rolling out of my head Oooh I’m rolling out of my head Oooh it must be something that I said Oooh it wasn’t me who played dead And all I can do is cry And call up coincidence admit that I’m ready to die Oooh leaves floating over my head Oooh leaves floating over my head Oooh try to remember what I said Oooh was I so easily led? And all I can do is cry And cast my eyes up to the sky Stop pretending that it’s easy You’re not following my steps Stop pretending that it’s easy You played a part but from the edge Stop pretending that it’s easy Look around for someone else Turn your head away and leave me Your tears are late There’s nothing left Oooh I’m rolling out of my head Oooh I’m rolling out of my head Oooh it must be something that I said Oooh it wasn’t me who played dead And all I can do is cry And I cast my eyes up to the sky (Copyright: Robert Gilmour, 1994)

I saw your days were numbered The candle almost gone Dropping too much Of everything going Running against the grain Poor Beheaded Fool Poor Beheaded Fool Your friends were on the level And moved to hold you back Telling you tales Of many other people Buried before their time Poor Beheaded Fool Poor Beheaded Fool Keep Running Keep Running Keep Running The world needs more like you Your eyes they saw before you But never looked behind Maybe that’s the way That it should be Kindness in your mind Poor Beheaded Fool Poor Beheaded Fool (Copyright: Robert Gilmour, 1991)

I never once told you The way that I felt I never once tried to Bring you back to yourself Or at least the way I used to know you We talked and you smoked A little less than you used to And I watched your mouth As closely as I could do And I wanted to be in there again It’s a running battle Me and my illusions I don’t know how to use them Or banish them forever From my mind I never once told you The things that I’d planned I knew you were leaving Then you gave me your hand And I knew that it was over (Copyright: Robert Gilmour, 1993)

Touch in my wondering eyes And I’ll know where I belong Kiss on my wandering lips And I’ll know that to be strong Is a mistake Smile in my deepening eyes And I’ll know that you’re awake Fly from my mind in the night And I’ll know that for your sake I’d soften wild Walk from my house in the misty soft morn And I’ll breathe in your place Draw in the wind of a salt, sea-blown breeze And I’ll brush from your face That gold whispering hair Sink into my mind on this warm winter’s night And with you I will stay Promise me half feather falls On a bed of soft down and I’ll say What is your name What is your name What is your name (Copyright: Robert Gilmour, 1988)

about

Inspired by personal events, the four tracks, written by Bob Gilmour between 1988 and 1994 in Newcastle upon Tyne, speak to coming of age in the late 80s and early 90s. Recorded for the first time in 2021 in Oregon, U.S.A., new instrumentation was added inspired by the talents of local string players Katherine Kehder and Keith Scofield on violin and cello.

The title track "A Perfect Sky" (1994) is a rolling, windows-down, summer-driving tune that contrasts the turbulence of a relationship with the perfection of a summer’s day. "Poor Beheaded Fool" (1991) celebrates those friends that burn wild and bright. The third track on the E.P. "Over" (1993) captures a final conversation. And the final track "What Is Your Name" (1988) records the thoughts after an unrequited moment.
